new literary fiction novel asks if we are all doomed to become our parents | News

CINNAMINSON, New Jersey, December 21, 2021 / PRNewswire-PRWeb / – Last Chance California, a dark comedy and contemporary fiction novel, presents our world, on the brink of the COVID-19 pandemic, through the eyes of a sarcastic and stubborn millennial as he tries to break his family’s cycle of abuse. It’s just a romantic way of saying that a depressed and lost man becomes a full-fledged alcoholic after moving to California to escape the clutches of his attacker.

“I’m no different from the other fools who turned into Hemingway during the lockdown,” said Brian Price, the guy who wrote the book. “But have you seen all the garbage that is posted these days? How many politicians’ briefs do we really need? And why does everyone think the way to grow a brand is to post a book as an expert thinking? Last Chance California Isn’t It’s as horrible as all that garbage, but then again, I wrote the book, so I’m biased. “

The black humor story follows a disillusioned millennial who moves to California after realizing that he looks more like his abusive father than he thinks. There is romance, sex, drugs, exotic locations, depression, and drug addiction that run rampant throughout the novel. So much so that the author prays every night that his book will sell, because if it doesn’t, Price thinks he’ll have a hard time finding work in Corporate America, given his shenanigans. delivered. And the fact that his novel demolishes American corporate culture.

“It’s fiction with a bit of my own journey sprinkled with it,” Price said. “At first I described the book as a coming-of-age novel, but the book police who patrol the interwebs scolded me and told me that only child or adolescent protagonists can be the character. main of these novels. But I think that’s a lot of crap. The majority have no age or expiration date.

But more seriously, Last Chance California highlights some of the glaring shortcomings of our society while also reminding readers of the complexity of families, the imperfections of humans, and the burdens we carry every day.

“I’m dry and sarcastic because I love attention, but the heart of my story is child abuse and its lifelong effects,” Price said. “There is a negative stigma around child abuse. It is worse when victims want to reveal the truth. I have felt shame and guilt… all my life. I never knew why. I didn’t realize my childhood wasn’t normal until I was in my thirties. And once I found out I had been abused, things got worse. Much worse. Memories flooded in. my brain and I found ways to blame myself for the horror I went through. The abuse hurt me far beyond my childhood. It was still continuing to affect my life every day. It’s sad to know that I’m not the only one with these feelings. “

“Every press release is supposed to end with a call to action to bring you to a website to generate internet traffic or to convince you to buy my products, which you totally should, but more importantly I also asks people to start talking when they see child neglect and abuse. I do not condone or ask anyone to be violent or aggressive towards another human being. It is also not our job to tell people how to become parents, but it’s everyone’s job to speak out and protect the innocent. If an adult spoke for me, my life could have been very different. “

If he doesn’t read or write, Brian is probably playing with his rescue puppy, Bucky, or ranting against the government. Brian and his puppy still reside in his mother’s basement in Southern New Jersey.
