The all-new Delta Literary Arts Society (DLAS) wastes no time in bringing its first event to the North Delta audience.
On Saturday, October 23, the company is hosting Killer Verse: A Night of Literary Terror, a multi-faceted production featuring “undead” costumed actors and ushers, at the new North Delta Center for the Arts.
“Nothing says Halloween more than spooky campfire stories,” DLAS President Angela Rebrec said in a press release.
The event will feature fiction and poetry from Canadian horror writers, including performances by local actors.
“Leave your children at home,” warns Rebrec. “We have increased the scare factor for this event.”
Killer Verse is the premier event hosted by the newly incorporated company, whose mission is to promote the literary arts in Delta by hosting events and programs to foster creative writing, communications, self-expression and healing, according to the group’s Facebook page. .
“We want to nurture the literary talents of students, emerging and established writers at Delta,” DLAS Treasurer Diana Calliou said in a press release.
“Art creates bonds between people – that’s how we form a close-knit community. “
If fear isn’t your thing, DLAS has a host of events planned for the coming year, including open mic themed evenings, writing and creativity workshops, and sponsored readings.
“There was such a black hole for events at Delta when it came to promoting and learning to write,” Rebrec said. “In the future, we would like to sponsor contests, anthologies, mentors – anything related to writing that promotes expression, self-esteem and healing.
Tickets for Killer Verse: A Night of Literary Terror are $ 15 and are available through Eventbrite or by emailing [email protected] Show time is 7:00 p.m. and snacks and drinks will be available on site.
