A Bhopal-based literary and arts festival will go live

The annual Bhopal-based literature and arts festival, Vishwarang 2020, will hold its second edition online due to the pandemic, with more than 1,000 artists, poets and writers from 50 countries.

Organized by Rabindranath Tagore University in collaboration with Tagore International Center for Arts & Culture, Bhopal, the festival known for promoting literature in Hindi and other regional languages, will be held from November 20-29. Billed as a kaleidoscope of art, culture and literature, the event boasts a hectic 10-day schedule this year, with arts panel discussions, as well as performances, including light melodies and folk dances.

“The event will kick off with programs based on Rabindranath Tagore and his works. In addition, tributes will be paid to dhrupad singer Ramakant Gundecha, former president Shri Pranab Mukherjee, theater artist and director Usha Ganguly and poet Rahat Indori,” the chairman of the committee said. It will offer over 72 sessions on topics ranging from arts, sciences, literature and culture. In order to increase the participation of young people and children, two new categories, an international film festival and a children’s literature, art and music festival, have been added to this year’s edition.

The festival program also includes a painting exhibition, an international mushaira, speeches on Tagore and Mahatma Gandhi, meet the authors sessions, dastangoi and performances by Indian and foreign popular groups.

“This year, the theme for the painting exhibition would be ‘Women in Indian Art’, for which over 1,000 paintings were received. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top five paintings,” the statement read. No less than 50 books as well as a coffee table book, based on the first edition of the festival, will also be published during the event.
